Severe storms and strong winds, that hit Paarl this afternoon caused damage to a few cars, left several residents without electricity, and uprooted a number of trees.

The first report of damage was a tree that was uprooted just off the Main Road near the old Nedbank Building, causing damage to a car in the parking area.

Later a report of a similar incident where another tree was uprooted due to the strong winds close to Checkers off the Main Road in Central Paarl.

It was reported that an occupant was in the car when the tree was uprooted, and fortunately nobody was injured.

Later the afternoon, reports of electricity poles that were blown over in Newton, resulted in several residents without electricity.

Mediclinic also had a tree uprooted in their parking lot.

And lastly, a tree was also uprooted in Dorp Street near Paarl Hospital.

Thankfully, nobody was seriously injured, only a few vehicles were damaged.
